Begin the tour at JANE’S, the outdoor biergarten at the Elm Street end of Findlay Market. Follow the route below.


🫖 STOP 1: CHURCHILL’S FINE TEAS

Start your stroll with a cup of hot or iced tea.
Not sure about tea? Churchill’s has hundreds of varieties and blends!

What to Do:
Specify hot or iced tea, and savor your sample while you browse the shop.

‍💡FUN FACT: All tea comes from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis. How it is processed (dried and/or oxidized) by the growers determines if the leaf will become white, green, matcha (stone-ground tea), oolong, pu-erh, black, purple, or yellow teas.

🥩 STOP 2: ECKERLIN MEATS

An old-fashioned butcher shop that has been family-owned and operated since 1852.
Eckerlin’s is known as “the place to get Cincinnati’s Award-Winning Goetta.” Goetta is a blend of pork, beef, oats, and special seasonings.

What to Do:
Go to the counter and ask for the famous Goetta, Egg, and Cheese sample. Important! Kitchen closes at 3 pm.

‍💡FUN FACT: Goetta is unique to the Cincinnati area. It was invented by the German immigrants that settled in this region in the late 19th century. The original goetta was “peasant food” made from scraps of the pork processing industry.

👀 Don’t forget to look up! Most of the buildings surrounding the market were built between about 1860-1890. Look closely and you will see most of the storefronts have a plaque explaining the history of the building. What stories they tell!


🫒 STOP 3: DEAN’S MEDITERREAN IMPORTS

Step into a treasure chest of flavors from around the world.
Dean’s has been a Findlay Market institution for more than 40 years.

What to Do:
Order the Pita Chips + Dip. Your choice of Hummus or Baba Ghanouj.

💡 FUN FACT: After immigrating from Lebanon, Dean opened his store selling roasted nuts, similar to what he could find in his native country. Today Dean’s Mediterranean is still the only local nut roaster, and the roasting happens right here at Findlay Market.

👀 As you head inside the main Findlay Market building, notice the red painted iron beams and posts. This supporting structure was erected in 1852 when the market was open air and began as a community space for local farmers to bring their products to sell.

💡 FUN FACT: Findlay Market is the oldest continuously operated public market in Ohio, right here since 1852!.


🍆 BONUS STOP: HARMONY PLANT FARE (*SELF-PAY)

A New York-inspired Vegan Deli.

Purchase the Italian Sandwich, a local favorite.

💡 FUN FACT: When Gramma Debbie retired, she passed the business to daughter-in-law Tosha Gannaway. Tosha added the vegan dishes, including Findlay Market’s only Vegan Goetta.

🍰 STOP 5: MAKERS BAKERS

One of the Top 10 Bakeries in Cincinnati
Specializing in custom cakes, cinnamon rolls, breads, and pastries

💡 FUN FACT: Makers Bakers started in a pop-up tent in 2019 and grew with the help of the Findlay Kitchen, a food business incubator located right across the street from Findlay Market on Elm Street.

👀 Don’t forget to look down! Near the intersection in the center of the market house, take a look at the mosaic called The Findlay Carpet. This mosaic was installed in 2002 and depicts the market house through the years. See the green arches that mimic the brick arches overhead, tiny people, horses, and trucks?

💡 FUN FACT: The Findlay Market Opening Day Parade celebrates the first Cincinnati Reds baseball game each season. The parade was started by the Findlay Market merchants, and the circular markers on the floor honor the long history of this local tradition.


🍫 BONUS STOP: MAVERICK CHOCOLATE

A family-owned and operated bean-to-bar chocolate shop
Making chocolate the old-fashioned way from ethically-sourced cocoa beans

What to Do:
Try some free samples and buy a bar to take home.

💡 FUN FACT: Owner Paul Picton traveled the world for years as an aviation engineer. He always returned home with interesting chocolates for his wife Marlene. When he retired, they decided to try making chocolate at home. The rest is history as they continue to win national and international awards for their world-class chocolates!
