Longfellow is a Hidden Gem

Longfellow2

The first time I walked into Longfellow in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhineneighborhood, I looked for Norm from “Cheers.” A comfortable corner bar and restaurant, Longfellow instantly feels like your favorite watering hole. The horseshoe-shaped bar invites conversation and the “Pay-It-Forward” chalkboard reminds you that your friends have probably been here lately.

When we visited Longfellow last week as part of our Signature Over-the-Rhine Tour, we were greeted by owner Mike Stankovich. He was proud to show us his imported Italian meat slicer and glad to explain the ins and outs of acquiring locally sourced foods to complement his creative cocktail menu. At the bar, Jen skillfully put together a few drinks for our group as we shared plates of mortadella, tomme cheese, and fresh bread from 16 Brix. As it often does with friends, time passed too quickly. Everyone agreed this was one of those places that would lure us back. I will return. I’ll come for the food and the friendly atmosphere, but you can bet I’ll also be checking the chalkboard to see if anyone bought me a drink!
